College Killed Christmas

I’d be much more inclined to enjoy Christmas if I didn’t learn from my coursework that it derives from an androcentric hegemony (via implicitly female-oppressing rules/expectations of domesticity) concomitant to the Victorian era and the wild contrivances of a one Charles Dickens.

Furthermore, college also taught me that Christmas takes place at the end of the year because of an attempt by the church to christianize the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Well, this wasn’t taught explicitly, but using the “critical thinking skills” I now possess ostensibly because of my mastery of the Core, I chose to extrapolate what I learned. The church co-opted pagan traditions and claimed them as its own to disarm pagans of uniquely pagan traditions. (e.g. Beowulf, etc.)

Thank you, college, for killing the joy.

You talk often of how much you don’t prefer college; perhaps it doesn’t like you either? 😉

    Merry Christmas all the same!
