Regarding the Super Bowl: Some Statistics

Some interesting statistics:

  • It costs approximately $3 million for a 30-second television spot during the Super Bowl.
  • One second of broadcast time costs as much as two years of college at the University of Chicago (full tuition + room and board).
  • $3 million buys enough coffee to kill 37683 people by caffeine poisoning. ($79.61 per person for 38 venti cups of coffee at Starbucks, assuming a median lethal dose of 10g of caffeine, and standard caffeine content of ~13 mg/oz of coffee)
  • The cost of one minute of ad time is equal to ~60% of hedge fund manager John Paulson’s average daily earnings in 2008. (Paulson was paid about $3.7 billion in 2008. The percentage I used was with respect to a 24-hour span of time.)
